The ultimate collection of those photos that would never end up on the mantlepiece. Erik Kessels Attack of the Giant Finger is a whimsical work that brings together photos taken on the simple premise a rogue pinky slipped into the composition, unnoticed until the image slowly seeped through in the darkroom. It is not a whirlwind of inspirational artwork, once the idea is out there there is little to be gained from the book aside from daydreaming about the unknown strangers its pages hold. But there is something quite delicious about Kessels collecting. Trawling flea markets, old photography archives and online image libraries: he has invested something immense into something seemingly disposable, and that is a greatly satisfying feat.
