Hubbox Exeter

Words by Shaun Cooney

The guys at Hubbox have landed their latest shipping container in the middle of Exeter and behind the steamy windows there’s some serious burger flipping going on. The 20ft reclaimed shipping container, concealing the kitchen, along side the exposed brickworks helps to give a industrial feel to the restaurant but the chipboard feels like a step in the wrong direction. After being shown to a table a large ‘order here’ sign causes confusion as to wait for an order to be taken or to head up and order. Hubbox offers a good selection of craft bottled beers to sit nicely alongside the burgers and hotdogs on offer. Using 100% local Cornish beef the burgers are fresh and ready for the grill every time. Ground beef is not the only offering on the menu; the Smoky B offers melt in the mouth 12-hour slow smoked beef brisket and the fishy Mack Daddy pairs beetroot jam with crispy mackerel. With side offerings of BBQ classic Burnt Ends and Giant Onion rings, crispy on the outside with soft onion on the inside, Hubbox has everything a good burger joint need. Hubbox also offer a great value take away offer of burger, fries and a drink for only £5 making it a serious fast food rival on the busy Exeter high street.
