The Hundred Butterflies Library

HBL-logo2With this year’s Camberwell Arts Festival only days away, we are in the final stages of our artist picks submission and getting excited to showcase our work at the John Passmore Library. However, after such an incredible response to our project from the whole community, we’ve decided to continue the project once the festival comes to a close next week.

(Just in case you haven’t heard about it) Inspired by the old Camberwell Library, we wanted to take a look at why libraries, and most importantly, language and literature are so important within a community. To honor the space and celebrate the diverse culture of Camberwell and Peckham, we asked the community to share their stories about being an SE5/15 resident. Memories, words, stories, poetry, recipes, illustrations, photographs (the list goes on), were sent to us to commemorate the area past, present and future, which helped us see the power of community in this small borough of London.

We have collated these submissions into a library of mini books, created by and for our community. We’d like to invite everyone who can, to visit it the Hundred Butterflies Library on Saturday 14th – Saturday 22nd June on Wells Way. If you can’t make it though, we are launching the Hundred Butterflies Library alongside the show, so look out, share and contribute your story!

For the full festival schedule see here. And for information about all 20 artists taking part in this years lucky dip, see the schedule here.
