Palm Angels

The word about town has always been whatever Pharrell Williams touches turns to gold, and Palm Angels looks to be no different. A compilation of photography by Francesco Ragazzi, art director of the historic Italian luxury sportswear brand Moncler, who guided the company onto the stock market at a cool $4bn dollars. Between this talent and Williams providing the introduction it’s launch later this year has been toted as one of the big releases for 2014.

Claims by publishers it will give to the Venice and Manhattan Beach skateboarding scenes in LA what Bruce Weber (of Kate Moss Calvin Klein fame) did for surf seem a bit of a stretch since LA is more than capable of writing its own beautiful legends and well – Lords of Dogtown got there first. However the ambitions of Ragazzi’s intention to recreate the sensation of skateboarding itself, rather than the finer technicalities are an exciting prospect. The contents of the book are being kept tight lipped, but with Francesco’s previous form in sports and fashion it looks not to be missed.
