Poor Michelle

That time Beyonce tried to subtly push her out of the photo…
Words by Billie Jenkins

In the last few years Beyonce has seen the world rapt by Bey fever, headlined the Superbowl and Glasto, had her net worth calculated at $350 million, married Mr Roc- A- Fella, and according to Kanye West had ‘had one of the best videos of all time’. Kelly Rowland has sold over 27 million records as a solo artist since Destiny’s Child split in 2005, and seems to be busy if Heat magazine is any way to judge these things. (So maybe not.)

Then theres Michelle Williams. It was going well, it really was. A successful gospel album, a stint in Chicago. Then the bubble burst, and the fall was harder than the whip of Beyonce’s weave as she violently turned her back. She was consistently relegated to the bottom two in a stint on Strictly Come Dancing, and a bizarre version of Jesus Christ Superstar in which she was billed alongside Johnny Rotten was cancelled due to not being financially viable. The cherry on the cake? If you google her a sexy, younger actress of the same name is all you’ll find forever.

Enter Poor Michelle. Under the caption of ‘That girl just can’t catch a break!’ the blog, which is updated with terrifying regularity, highlights the plight of a girl living under the shadow of the original Destiny’s Child members. And the rest of the world. It makes for a great Monday night, just blast the classic hits and grab a box of tissues because after the first bottle of wine Poor Michelle is going to melt your heart. We’ve chosen our favourites for your enjoyment here.
