Spotlight On: Rocío Montoya

Words by Billie Jenkins Images with thanks to Rocío Montoya

Here at Corinne& we have a bit of a preoccupation with collage, so it makes sense that we have a huge crush on Rocío Montoya. Combining collage and photography to produce beautiful, and often quite sensual images, her work draws you in. It’s intimate, but born to be printed big in glossy editorial and ripped out to frame on your bedroom wall. Not content with knocking out striking visuals, she founded Doze magazine in 2010, which ran until June of this year. Doze, a cutting edge source of photography and arts goodies, makes us weep with jealousy, and we see no shame in that. What gives Montoya that edge, and makes her a must to add to your repertoire, is the energy of her portraiture, be it bold or subtle, cut up faces or a candid self shot. She’s worked extensively for fashion editorial, and newspapers as a photojournalist, but it’s her personal portfolio that offers the biggest treats. We’ll just have to try really hard not to have her in the back of our minds next time we take scissors and glue to paper.
