Whistles Guide SS14

Whistles2Photography by Whistles Words by Elizabeth Pollard

With Jane Shephardson at the helm, Whistles delivers another stunning season of desirable separates. Just about everything is on my wishlist so far but these 5 key looks are sure to guide our spring wardrobes into a world of minimalist chic.

1. The Silver Backpack
The backpack has been a staple of the Whistles woman for a few years now, but never has it been so bold. There are a few silver items from the collection, all of which are sure to make you stand out despite your clean aesthetic but for me, just a pop of silver feels like much more durable than a skirt you are likely to wear once and then ‘archive’ in your wardrobe.

2. The Sandal
Hiking sandals and pool slides have received a fashion overhaul. A trend started by Pheobe Philo’s furry Birkenstocks last summer have sent these frumpy sandals to the top of every edit list, and I am certainly no exception to the rule. However, the key to making this trend work is considered hardware, textured leather and neutral shades.

3. The Sweatshirt
Fast becoming one of Whistles go-to styles, the sweatshirt is the perfect year round piece to make your look feel casual. I like mine best in a classic navy or grey marl and styled with statement necklaces, a bright skirt or leather trousers.

4. The High-neck
The high-neck has been all over the catwalk this season but often in a roll neck or chunky knit. For spring/summer Whistles has taken influence from the 90’s and designed collarbone skimming racer-backs and wide neck, fine knit tops all in their seasonal colours of mint, pink, blush and white.

5. All the Shades of Pink
It started with the coat and it looks like we just can’t get enough of this Pepto-Bismol shade. Ranging from blush to cerise in cashmere, leather and jersey, it’s hard to miss. Despite first impressions, this colour doesn’t have to look twee. The collection is carefully designed to make it wearable, cleaner and a whole lot cooler than when you were six!
